Why do you fish?
For me fishing is about being on the water and exploring new zones. 99.9% of the fishing that I do is catch and release so I am never out there looking for dinner. Fishing for me is just about the experience. The environment is always changing and you really never know what to expect. I am not a guide. I am just a really hard-core angler. It’s in my blood at this point.
How has fly-fishing become a part of your life?
My uncle is the one who introduced it to me. My brother and I always fished with him. Once I picked it up it just inevitably became my passion and I haven’t been able to put down the fly rod. I was raised in the Naples, Florida area so it was always about exploring the water and getting after each day as a new adventure. There is no shortage of epic water in Naples. Its also so great because you can fish in January and think about all of the people up north huddled around the fireplace freezing cold. The weather is really perfect here.
Why do you use our reels?
I was down at the local fly shop; Mangrove Outfitters, about 2 years ago and I always found myself messing around with the 3-TAND T-120 in the shop. I finally got the reel and really just fell in love with everything about it. The thing looks and feels great and can really handle anything. I have caught so many fish on it. It’s great quality and an even better price point. The reel is a no brainer for any angler.
I pride myself in being a really well rounded angler for down here. When it comes down to it I like to get after all of the species in any condition. For instance two weeks ago we stumbled into a school of redfish 70 yards thick. The next day we went Tarpon fishing off of our beach and it was the best day of fishing I have ever had. I love being forced to mix up techniques and approaches to fishing
