What is your history with fishing?
I give my dad credit for my love for fishing. However I initially thought that Fly Fishing was dumb. I would always travel to Colorado and I thought that it was unreasonable to fly fish and it be my passion. Once I gave the sport a look I fell in love and have never looked back.
Fly Fishing has been more than just apart of my life, it has been the essence of my well being. If I didn't have fly fishing in my life, I would be lost on a spiraling path to who knows where, but the core of the sport keeps me grounded and instills with me the ethics that I have been taught by my family.
It has opened more doors for me than I could of ever imagined. The places the sport has taken me, and the people I have gotten to meet as a result have truly impacted me into the man I am today and the man I want to become. Growing up fly-fishing, it has always just been about the fish, but in the past couple of years I have come to realization that it is more about the people you meet and the cultures you get to experience.
Passionate people inevitably have several passions. What else do you love to do?
I love bow hunting and shooting birds. Just the thrill of the shot and the act of actually getting onto the animal, like approaching it. It’s so incredibly rewarding for me next to catching Permit. I see my father in me.
Knox, your 17 years old. What do most of your friends do with their spare time?
Most kids just party and play video games for the most part. I’m very blessed to be able to fuel my passion with things that mean so much to me.
Tell me about your travels.
I feel like I’ve been everywhere. This past summer I was in Belize, Honduras, shot dove in Argentina, fished Patagonia, Colorado, Texas, Florida. I’ve gotten to experience a lot of great things as a by-product of Fly Fishing. I am a part of a rehabilitation program in Guanaja, Honduras to rebuild the mangrove habitats after the destruction of hurricanes. It’s so cool and such an incredible place to spend my time and fall in love with an incredibly special place. I have been given the honor to become a member of the United States Junior Fly Fishing Team where the coaches, the clinics, and the association have taught me so much. I even got to travel to Poland as the team competed in The 13th FIPS Mouche World Youth Fly Fishing Competition.
