Matt Hart
The Forged Fly

One of the most creative, and genuine human beings you are fortunate to meet in life — in brief, that’s how we describe Matt.

Matt is a man who loves anything outdoors, and fly fishing happens to be one of them. He managed to take his passion for fly fishing and fly tying, and meld it into something he is great at doing, making amazing art out of many metals. His techniques are his own, which makes his works truly remarkably unique, and priceless in our eyes.

We were introduced to Matt at a Yale Fly Fishing Film Festival in New Haven in 2016, CT by Sean Callinan, the Coach of the Yale Fishing Team. We can honestly say, we are truly thankful for that day.

@ ICAST, with Stu Apte…

Matt joined us at IFTD / ICAST 2017, where he unveiled his Stu Apte Tarpon Fly — the legendary pattern, tied by a Legend himself. The spectacular orange and red Tarpon Fly was so impressive, effective, and appreciated, that it was printed on U.S. Postage Stamps.

The time it took for Matt to take different metals, and turn them into the Forged Fly’s Stu Apte Tarpon Fly, in honor of the man himself, was countless, but the results were…priceless. Later, Matt was commissioned to create flies for other Legends in the industry, such as Left Kreh, Joan Wulff, Bob, Clouser, and others.

In addition to flies, Matt brings his solid creativity with metals to life for residential and commercial buildings. From art to functional metal-works, such as staircase railings, exterior/interior gates, or whatever you can dream of, Matt makes metal work.

We hope you enjoy his story.
